Wing surfing from a boat opens a new world of possibilities

Wing surfing, sometimes referred to as wing foiling, is a wind powered adventure watersport, where an inflatable hand-controlled wing is used to generate the power to ride a wing foil board at speeds up to 30 knots. A submerged hydrofoil, shaped like an airplane wing, is attached to a mast at the bottom of your board, raising it above the water surface and giving you that sensation of flying.

It doesn’t require a wide beach and steady winds to get going. Equipment is small and easy to transport. There is no hassle with lines, long masts or big sails like in other watersports and it can easily be performed from a boat without touching land. This opens a whole new world of possibilities, a chance to explore new places in the neighborhood or further away from home.

Planning your wing surf riding routes is essential. Rocks are common in the Archipelago and hitting them with your hydrofoil can bring a quick end to your fun. For safe riding, you need about 1,5m deep water.

To prepare your gear, shelter behind an island. Wind and waves can be tricky and result in damaging your boat or gear. Make sure to inflate your wing last.

When you surf from a boat, remember to keep a safe distance from the boat propellers. Then, as you enter the water, feel the wing catch the wind right before you're flying above the water.
